ESPRESSO will show you all benefits, potentials but also risks of standardization in terms of Smart Cities

The legal, social and economic impact of the actions carried out through ESPRESSO will be assessed; this analysis will help cities to identify prerequisites and actions contributing to align them with the Smart City standards resulting as the most critical ones. In particular, an analysis of potential legal frameworks is likely to be introduced, both at EU and at local level. This will contribute to identify foreseeable regulatory conditions that will characterize the development of tomorrow’s Smart City market. The role of cities will be particularly important to identify possible extensions to existing legal or regulatory frameworks, wherever the current ones are not adequate with the new scenarios introduced by the project.

Furthermore, the impact of new and emerging technologies in societal terms will be explored and this will contribute to highlighting consequences for the society at a large level, as well as for individuals. The cities will be actually engaged to assess how their services can be improved through large-scale use of standards. In addition, ESPRESSO will envisage the impact of new and emerging technologies in societal terms. Finally, it will include an analysis on the business opportunities that may emerge through the availability of new data and services within interoperable Smart City based on open standards

Finally, we will also be seeking business opportunities that may emerge through the availability of new data and services within interoperable Smart Cities based on open standards. Cities will also be engaged to assess the economic impact of these new services. Indeed, the economic impact on single cities will be evaluated, with a focus on ESPRESSO pilot towns, in order to understand how the development of Smart City standards may assure opening of the market to multiple actors.
